OUR MISSION
The purpose of Players is to foster interest and participation in social and performance activities at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point and the Stevens Point community.
WHO WE ARE
Players is a student-run organization that puts on shows completely designed, performed, and directed by students. Members can submit their ideas for productions and Players in turn helps with funding, advertisement, and other support to make the show a success. In the past Players has done full-scale play productions, staged readings, dance shows, student-written plays, etc.
The 40-year-old organization also coordinates other events such as trips to see shows, workshops to broaden students’ knowledge of theatre, and Forums (which are casual performance nights throughout the year). Players also helps organize the beginning of the year Theatre and Dance orientation picnic and sells cookies and juice at show intermissions. The money received in donations goes towards paying for future productions as well as the end-of-the-year banquet. This huge themed banquet is a celebration of everything Players has done that year and is also the awards ceremony for the Department of Theatre and Dance. The evening usually consists of a meal, scholarships, plenty of humor, and a dance to follow.
BECOMING A MEMBER
It’s very easy to be a member of Players, and no prior experience is necessary. Simply show interest in some way: participate in an event, help with a show, sell cookies at intermissions, come to a meeting, etc. Executive board meetings are held weekly and are open to everyone. Also, every time you do something with/for Players you get Players hours. Players hours go towards a raffle for free tickets to the Players Banquet at the end of the year.
